First Year 2 Cent Piece

Similar to coin depicted. Grading Good or better. Introduced in 1864, as Generals Grant and Lee traded important Civil War victories, these bronze 2¡é pieces helped make change during a severe wartime coin shortage. Mintages of 2¡é pieces, struck only at Philadelphia, quickly declined beginning in 1866 and were issued for circulation for the last time in 1872.
