The first $2 notes, called United States Notes or "Legal Tenders", were issued by the federal government in March 1862 and featured a portrait of the first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton. The portrait of Hamilton used was a profile view, different from the familiar portrait in use on the small-sized $10 bill since 1928. The artists of the Merrick Mint have used an advanced technology over this modern uncirculated United States $2 bill, enhancing it with images from the 1862 Alexander Hamilton $2 Banknote, to create a collectible work of art.
